Meet Karl

A true animal lover, compassionate rescuer, and stellar friend. Each rescue is carried out in honor of Karl Knapp, celebrating his unwavering commitment to giving animals a second chance at life.

Today and every day, we honor the man whose dedication and passion inspired everything we do at Karl's Canine Krew. Karl was not just a rescuer; he was a force of nature whose love for dogs changed countless lives. A proud Marine Corps Veteran, Karl brought the same selflessness, compassion, and unwavering determination to his mission of rescuing dogs. His courage and dedication are the foundation of KCK, and he continues to guide us in spirit every day.

Why we rescue in his honor

Karl believed no dog should be left behind, no matter how challenging the situation. He didn’t just see dogs as pets—he saw them as family members who deserved a second chance at life. Because of his tireless efforts, many dogs have found loving homes and safe spaces to thrive.

Where are you located?

Karl's Canine Krew, based in Colorado Springs, operates entirely as a foster-based organization. This means we don’t have a physical facility—every dog in our care lives in a loving foster home until they are adopted.

What is the adoption process?

Before adopting, ensure you’re ready—emotionally, physically, financially—and discuss with your household.

Start by checking out our adoptable animals and submitting an application. Applications take up to 72 hours to process, so ensure your references are prepared to respond quickly. Once approved, we’ll arrange a meet-and-greet with the foster parent to find the best fit. If it’s not the right match, your application remains valid for 30 days to explore other options.

After adoption, you’ll receive medical records and helpful documents via email. Our team is always here to support you with any questions or concerns about your new pet!

What do I need to do to become a foster?

Complete the Foster Application:
Start by submitting a foster application through our website.

Application Review: Once your application is received, a Foster Coordinator will review it.

Home Inspection: After approval, we’ll contact you to set up a home inspection to ensure your home is safe and ready for fostering.

Foster Orientation: Attend a new foster orientation, where you’ll learn everything you need to know about fostering and PACFA regulations.

Once you’re approved, you’ll be ready to welcome a foster animal into your home! We’ll provide all the food, supplies, and veterinary care needed. You'll be responsible for transporting the animal to vet appointments and adoption events. On average, foster animals stay for 3-5 weeks before finding their forever homes.

We rely on our foster families to provide a safe, loving environment while helping us save lives. If you’re ready to make a difference, apply today!

How can I donate?

There are so many ways you can help! You can donate monetarily, give gently used or new items, or even shop from our Amazon or Chewy wishlists—items will be sent directly to us! Every little bit helps us continue to care for those in need.

Is Karl's Canine Krew A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit?

Yes. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation registered with the State of Colorado and the IRS.
