At Karl's Canine Krew, our mission is powered by the incredible individuals who open their hearts and homes to dogs in need. Our foster families are the backbone of our rescue, providing the love, patience, and stability that help our pups transition to their forever homes. This month, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of our most dedicated foster families: Kaitlyn and her amazing crew!
For over a year, Kaitlyn and her family have been a beacon of hope for so many dogs. Their story is a beautiful example of how one family's compassion can create a ripple effect of happiness. We sat down with Kaitlyn to learn more about her journey, the joys and challenges of fostering, and what inspires her to keep going.
We asked Kaitlyn a few questions about her experience as a KCK foster, and her answers are a heartfelt look into the world of animal rescue.
"Just over a year," Kaitlyn shares. In that time, she has made a significant impact, providing a safe haven for numerous dogs on their journey to a new life.
For Kaitlyn, the motivation was simple and pure. "I've always loved animals and helping others, so it was the perfect way to do both." This beautiful combination of passions is what makes her such a natural at fostering. She provides not just a home, but a healing space for dogs to learn and grow.
The emotional side of fostering is often the most challenging, and Kaitlyn is candid about it. "Not getting too attached to the dogs," she admits, "hence why we have foster failed twice!" While saying goodbye is never easy, a "foster fail"—when a foster family adopts their foster dog—is one of the happiest endings we can imagine. It’s a testament to the deep bonds that are formed.
Despite the challenges, the rewards are immeasurable. "Getting to know so many wonderful dogs and people and seeing those dogs find happiness," Kaitlyn says. This is the true magic of fostering: being a crucial part of a dog's success story and seeing them finally find the love and security they deserve.
Kaitlyn’s dedication to animals is a family affair. "My husband and I have been married 15 years," she says. "We have two kids, a 15-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter."
Originally from central Minnesota, the family made a big move in 2023. "We moved to Colorado Springs for better weather and to be able to spend more time outdoors." The change of scenery has ignited a new passion for Kaitlyn. "I have really taken a liking to hiking with dogs and get out every chance I get."
Their home is a lively and loving place, truly a "small zoo," as Kaitlyn affectionately calls it. "We have 3 dogs (2 of which have been foster fails through KCK), 2 guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, a painted turtle, and a cichlid aquarium." Her experience with a wide array of animals highlights her deep-seated love for them.
When she's not busy with her kids or her wonderful menagerie of pets, Kaitlyn taps into her creative side. "I also enjoy crafting with my cricut making custom shirts, signs, cups, etc."
Kaitlyn and her family embody the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines Karl’s Canine Krew. Their willingness to open their home, care for dogs with diverse needs, and love them unconditionally makes our life-saving work possible. They are not just fosters; they are teachers, healers, and heroes.
We are incredibly grateful for Kaitlyn, her husband, and her children for their unwavering support. Thank you for being a shining star for us and for every dog that has been lucky enough to cross your threshold.
