Meet Stacy: KCK's April 2026 Shining Star
Volunteers are the absolute heartbeat of Karl's Canine Krew (KCK). Without their open homes and generous hearts, our rescue mission simply would not exist. Every single day, foster families step up to provide safe havens for dogs in need. This month, we are thrilled to honor someone who truly embodies the spirit of selfless rescue. Grab a cup of coffee and get ready to be inspired by Stacy, our April 2026 Shining Star of the Pack.
Over the past year with KCK, and through seven total years of fostering, Stacy has shown an unwavering commitment to animals. Her rescue journey spans continents, crosses oceans, and features countless lives saved. Let us dive into her incredible story and celebrate the amazing work she does for our community.
How a Surprise Delivery Sparked a Passion
Fostering a dog is always a big leap of faith. For Stacy, that leap came with a rapidly ticking clock and a major surprise. Seven years ago, she met a very pregnant dog who desperately needed a safe, quiet place to land. Rescue coordinators told Stacy the mama had about two weeks until her due date. Wanting to help, Stacy opened her doors, preparing for a couple of weeks of calm before the puppy storm arrived.
The universe, however, had completely different plans. Just two days after settling into Stacy's home, that sweet mama dog gave birth to three healthy, beautiful girls.
Instead of panicking at the sudden arrival of newborns, Stacy immediately stepped up. She provided a warm environment, helped raise those tiny puppies, watched them grow strong, and eventually guided them toward their forever families. That single, life-changing experience lit a permanent spark. Seeing a vulnerable mother dog successfully raise her babies in a safe home changed Stacy's perspective forever. From that moment on, she was officially hooked on fostering.
A Global Mission of Love and Rescue
Stacy's path to Karl's Canine Krew is unique and deeply inspiring. As a military spouse, her family has lived all over the world. Moving frequently comes with significant challenges. Packing up a life and starting over in a new city—or a new country—requires immense resilience. But Stacy and her family turned those constant relocations into opportunities to help even more animals across the globe.
To date, Stacy has fostered more than 80 dogs across various locations. Think about that number for a moment. That is over 80 unique personalities, over 80 sets of paws walking through her front door, and over 80 lives forever changed for the better. In addition to fostering, Stacy and her family have transported countless other dogs, ensuring vulnerable pups safely reach rescues and adoptive homes.
Three years ago, military life brought her family to Colorado. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky that their path led them right to Karl's Canine Krew. She brought a wealth of global experience and a deep well of compassion to our local rescue efforts.
Trekking Into the Jungle of Okinawa
When you rescue dogs all over the world, you naturally gather some amazing memories. One of Stacy's most profound experiences happened thousands of miles away from her current home in Colorado.
While stationed in Japan, she heard about an injured puppy lost in the wild. Many people might hope someone else handles the situation. Stacy did not hesitate. She literally trekked into the dense, humid jungle of Okinawa to search for the hurt pup. Navigating thick foliage and unknown terrain, she refused to give up the search. Her intense determination paid off when she found the dog, secured it, and brought it to safety.
This incredible story perfectly captures her dedication to animals. Stacy will go to the ends of the earth—or the middle of a literal jungle—to save a life in jeopardy.
The Heartbreak and Healing of Fostering
If you ask any foster parent about the toughest part of the job, the answer is almost always the same. For Stacy, the absolute hardest part of fostering is saying the goodbyes.
You pour your heart and soul into these dogs. You heal their physical wounds, build their shattered confidence, and teach them what a loving human touch feels like. Sometimes they sleep in your bed, and they always take a piece of your heart. Handing the leash to someone else takes an immense amount of emotional strength. It requires you to break your own heart a little bit so a dog can have a wonderful life.
But why put yourself through that emotional rollercoaster over 80 times? Because the reward always outweighs the pain.
Stacy notes that the best part of fostering is seeing the animals truly thrive. Watching a scared, broken, or sick dog blossom into a joyful, confident companion is pure magic. Seeing them walk out the front door with a loving forever family makes every tearful goodbye completely worth it. She knows that every time a foster dog leaves, it opens up a spot to save another desperate life.
Life Beyond the Leash
Stacy’s house is full of life, love, and plenty of wonderful chaos. She shares her daily life with her highly supportive husband and their four wonderful children. Fostering is a family affair, and her kids have grown up learning the deep value of compassion and volunteerism.
The family also has a permanent furry resident: a 13-year-old Mini Australian Shepherd. This loyal pup has been by their side through all the global military moves and has graciously hosted the massive parade of foster dogs passing through their living room over the last decade.
When she is not wrangling her kids, managing a household, or saving jungle puppies, Stacy has a beautifully creative side. She absolutely loves baking and decorating cakes. You need a lot of patience, a steady hand, and a sharp eye for detail to decorate a beautiful cake. Those exact same qualities make her an exceptional dog foster. Whether she is carefully piping icing onto a dessert or quietly comforting a frightened rescue pup, Stacy brings warmth, skill, and dedication to everything she does.
Thank You, Stacy
We are so incredibly grateful to have Stacy in the KCK family. Her seven years of fostering experience bring a massive wealth of knowledge to our rescue network. She is a shining example of what it means to give back to the community and protect the vulnerable.
Thank you, Stacy, for opening your home, your heart, and your life to these deserving dogs. You are a true hero to the 80-plus dogs you have saved, to the mama dog who needed you seven years ago, and to all of us at Karl's Canine Krew. Congratulations on being our April 2026 Shining Star of the Pack!
